Concrete Block Applications

Block Walls

Block walls are beneficial in many situations. Retaining walls are one of the most popular uses, as concrete blocks provide the strength necessary to block water and earth. Various types of block walls can be used on residential and commercial properties, making them extremely versatile. Decorative concrete blocks can also create a timeless look, making them a great choice for properties that require aesthetic solutions.

Security Barriers

When lined up side by side, concrete blocks create an excellent barrier, keeping people and vehicles out of closed-off areas. They can even be stacked to create a larger wall-like barricade. These security barriers can be used at special events, buildings, job sites, or outdoor patios.

Traffic Control

Controlling traffic can be a nuisance for construction, special events, and emergency crews, but concrete blocks are a perfect solution. Construction crews can use blocks to maneuver traffic through roadway construction zones. Event planners can also use concrete blocks to create entrances, designate parking lots, and block restricted areas.

Material Bins

Concrete blocks are perfect for storing materials. Many landscape companies use blocks to create storage bins that keep mulch, rock, and other aggregates organized in their yards. Bins blocks are also great for housing salt, sand, and various other products and materials. When built correctly, these concrete bins not only keep materials separate from contamination with other products but also protect them from the elements.

Tent Tie-Downs

Concrete blocks can be purpose-sized and built for tent tie-down, offering a great solution for keeping tents in place no matter what the weather has in store.

    What are decorative concrete blocks?

Decorative blocks combine the same safety and functionality as our standard blocks, with a decorative design for an added aesthetic benefit. These are perfect landscape blocks and work well to build concrete barriers, bins, and retaining walls for your project.
*Decorative block options vary based on location.

What can you use concrete barrier blocks for?

With our concrete blocks, the possibilities are endless. Some popular uses for our blocks include block walls, security barriers, traffic control, material bins, and tent tie-down solutions. With rental and delivery options, we make it easy to use concrete blocks for any type of project.

How many concrete blocks do I need?

The number of concrete blocks required is determined by the application. Our blocks are sold individually or in bulk and are available for delivery and rental to offer you the best possible variety of solutions. If you have questions, please contact our Ozinga Dispatch department for additional help.

What’s the difference between cinder blocks and concrete blocks?

Although similar in name, cinder blocks and concrete blocks are usually used for different purposes. The term “cinder block” refers to a small block made with filler materials and are typically less expensive than concrete blocks. Cinder blocks normally have a rectangular shape with a hollow interior which limits their strength and overall usage. Our concrete blocks are made from recycled concrete with a strength rating of 3,000 – 4,000 PSI. Their strength and size options make them perfect for permanent or temporary outdoor solutions for restaurants, special events, job sites, and so much more.

What are other names for concrete blocks?

Concrete blocks have a variety of different names and may be referred to as cinder blocks, jersey barriers, breeze blocks, CMU blocks, concrete bin blocks, or masonry blocks. While concrete and cement are not the same things, they’re often used interchangeably, so you may find concrete blocks are occasionally called cement blocks.

To be sure that we carry the product you are looking for, please contact our dispatch office.

Why does inventory vary based on location?

Concrete blocks are made of recycled and leftover concrete and can sometimes be determined by a plant’s volume or production. Ozinga representatives can give you more insight into inventory at specific locations near you, so contact us today!

How much does a concrete block weigh?

The weight of concrete blocks varies significantly based on their size. Simple parking bumper blocks weigh over 100 lbs, while larger concrete blocks can weigh upwards of a ton.

    Are Ozinga’s concrete blocks sustainable?

Concrete blocks from Ozinga are developed using 100% recycled materials. After mixing concrete, it must be poured. For any project that doesn’t use a full load of prepared concrete, there are leftovers that must be used. Ozinga makes sure this material doesn’t go to waste by pouring concrete blocks using the leftovers.

Village of Glen Ellyn Uses Ozinga Concrete Blocks to Create Custom Storage Solution

Imagine in mid-winter the municipality you manage runs out of road salt and you are at the mercy of supplier stock levels and peak season market prices. For Julius Hansen, director of public works for the Village of Glen Ellyn, running out of salt is not an option. The Village needs at least 2,000 tons a year to keep their streets and sidewalks safe. Paying for extra salt in the middle of winter can be costly, not to mention the costs associated with building a new dome to house the additional salt inventory.
