Rip Rap Stone Overview
You have probably seen rip rap designs in construction before, but might not know exactly what it is. So, what is rip rap rock in construction? Rip rap simply refers to a variety of rock or stone-like materials often used in landscaping and architectural applications. Riprap revetment is commonly used for soil erosion control, slope stabilization, drainage, backfill, and site stabilization.
Rip rap stones can range in size and shape. Oftentimes, standard rip rap stones come in anywhere from 4 inches long to over 2 feet long. Because of the range in size and shape of rip rap stones, they are able to interlock and provide support to unstable slopes and areas that see concentrated drainage.
Rip rap provides a natural look and is a very durable material. To avoid issues with gaps between stones, it is helpful to fill in holes with dirt or soil. This will also help prevent animals and humans alike from getting injured trying to traverse the uneven surfaces.
