Fill Sand

FA6, Non-Spec Sand, Reclaimed Sand

Fill Sand Overview

What Is Fill Sand Used For?

As the name suggests, fill sand is perfect for just that—fill. Fill simply refers to placing some volume of earthen material (i.e. dirt or sand) to help fill in holes, gaps, or depressions.

Among one of the cheapest fill materials, this aggregate is non-spec, and is often a mix of different sands. It’s not processed, which means it can be clumpy, but it does compact well, which makes it great for those areas you need to build up.

Fill Dirt Vs. Fill Sand

What is the difference between dirt and fill sand? Fill dirt has very little organic matter which means it will not shift or decompose over time. Sand on the other hand is made of tiny round bits of rocks that have been broken down over a long period of time. The end result being that fill sand can still be compacted to make a dense foundation, but does pose the possibility of shifting or being displaced over time. However, sand tends to excel in wet environments where dirt is more likely to absorb moisture.
